Marion Public Library hosted a fair celebrating local authors on Saturday, highlighting creativity, resilience and the power of storytelling.
Among the writers drawing attention were Jessica Miller and Julio Moore, two authors whose work is shaped by personal struggle and deep reflection.
Miller, who has lived in several Indiana cities but considers Marion home, writes crime fiction influenced by her degrees in criminal justice and political science. Miller said she enjoys exploring how people think and why they make difficult choices.
Brian Jones, a spectator at the fair, said, “I think it’s important for Marion to have events like this to showcase our pride for our community.”
Moore said she wrote stories and poems as a child but became serious about her craft in her mid 30s. She said she read widely to learn from contemporary poets, checking out stacks of books from her local library.
Moore said reading helped her understand how writers today communicate and how she could take part in that conversation.
Both authors said they came to the fair through community connections and a shared desire to meet readers.
