Indiana Wesleyan University will host Wildcat Summer Academy from June 21-26, with an extension of a new business track that is hosted in Indianapolis.
Lauren Schneider, director of IWU’s Academic Youth Programs, said Wildcat Summer Academy (WSA) is a college prep experience for high school students that helps them explore their interests and how they connect to their future college and career.
Students can choose from 11 different tracks to explore throughout the week. These tracks are art and design, business, computer science, esports, engineering, theology and ministry, forensic science, music therapy, nursing, social work and teaching camps.
Each track offers different activities that give students a taste of how their interests could translate to a career. Students also experience a spiritually focused camp environment.
“We don’t want it to just be like any other art camp. We want it to be a camp where students are being formed spiritually,” Will Carpenter, professor and chair of Art + Design said.
Some tracks assign teaching assistants to specific groups to connect with students, pray for them and help them find answers to questions.
Wildcat Summer Academy is expanding its reach with the addition of a business camp. The business track runs June 22-26 and is based in the IWU DeVoe School of Business branch in Indianapolis as a day camp.
Shelley Webb, chair of the Division of Business, said the students will learn business acumen principles, project management, LEGO Serious Play, participate in a formative interview and learn business etiquette.
“We hope that this will be transformational, so that they will be able to make lifelong friends,” Webb said.
Wildcat Summer Academy registration is open. Tuition and fees are due by May 31.
